Hello Tennis Friends!

I will continue to post to remind you about doing your Pre-Commitment for the Alabama Tennis Foundation Specialty License Tag. I was really excited to learn a few weeks ago that our tag was the most requested for pre-commitments of all the specialty tags available, so my thanks to all of you in Baldwin County and keep it up! This is going to best be accomplished by friends urging friends to make this happen so I am counting on all of you.

All you have to do is to go to your local DMV and tell them you want to fill out a Pre-Commitment form for the Alabama Tennis Foundation Specialty License Tag. You do not have to wait until your renewal time! In fact, the sooner you do this the better because as soon as we get 250 commitments the license plate can be made. The cost to you is $50, $41 of which is tax deductible. (Don't forget to keep the copy of your paperwork. This is what you will use to pick up your plate once they are available). With the minimum of 250 plates, $10,000 a year will go to the Alabama Tennis Foundation and communities all over the state will benefit from this fund.

If you have any questions all the information you need is on www.alabamata.com. There are over 14,000 USTA members in Alabama. But remember that if all of those people think someone else will step up and do this it will never happen

NTRP MEETING

If so, this meeting is for you!

There will be a meeting Thursday night (June 3) @ 7:00 at Creekside Church, 2315 Roberts Lane in Florence to answer any questions you may have about your NTRP rating. Phil Meador is flying in from South Carolina especially for the Shoals area. I would love to have a large turnout. Please make every effort to attend. Please let me know if you can make it! My goal is 100.............

Phil serves as the TennisLink Coordinator for the USTA Southern Sectional League. Meador was the Chief Verifier for USTA South Carolina for a number of years. Some of you may have seen him at our State Championships in Mobile when we had verifiers. He currently serves on the USTA Southern League Committee, Southern NTRP Committee, the National Oversight Committee, and the National Longrange Planning Committee. In Georgetown, SC Meador works as a teaching pro where he coaches several youth teams.

His presentation “NTRP Myth Busters” has been presented all over the southern section with rave response.

Shoals Jr. Circuit – 18 & Under, 15 & Under, 12 & Under (Will register @ Turtle Point)

Locations:

Adults – Cox Creek
Seniors – Court House Racquet Club
Juniors – UNA (Saturday, May 22)
Play will begin for Adults & Seniors on Friday, May 21 (Thursday, if needed).

Scoring:

Play will be two sets and a third-set tie-break in lieu of a third set. Juniors will be an 8-game pro set.

Trophies will be awarded in all divisions. The player’s party will be Saturday night
at the Court House Racquet Club.

Registration for Mixed Doubles will open April 9th. Deadline for team entry (6 players min.) is May 9th. Play begins May 24th and ends July 17th.

Cypress Flexible Tournament

The Cypress Lakes Tennis Center will be hosting a "Flexible Schedule" Tennis Tournament May 1st-May 29th for Adults and Junior Players with many singles and doubles divisions offered. The tournament will feature the opportunity for players to participate with the flexibility of playing on the average one match per week per event. This allows players with busy schedules to enter! Attached is a flyer with all the details. Please feel free to contact Tim Holmes with questions or to enter the tournament.

FALL LEAGUE

The Fall captain's meeting will be Tuesday night, September 22nd at the Court House Racquet Club at 6:30 p.m.

It's been awhile since I've blogged. I haven't heard from any of the mixed teams that participated in Dothan. You can check them out in TennisLink. The next USTA State Championships are the Senior and Super Senior Combo Doubles in Gulf Shores October 22 - 25th. I won't be there but if anyone goes and takes any pictures, I'd love to post them.

Back to the league - the Fall League starts Sunday, September 27th. We will be playing week nights and weekends. Play will end December 13th.

2010 RULE CHANGES

There are a few rules changes for 2010. I'll post all of them tonight but wanted to get the word out on one of them.

You can now have 16 players on your roster.

USTA FALL LEAGUE

SYMPATHY

The USTA League wants to extend it's heart-felt sympthy to the family of Ed Bordan. He died while on a cruise with his wife, Susan Borden. He was also the father-in-law of Mary Beth Borden. Both Susan and Mary Beth are active players in our league. His funeral was yesterday. Keep Susan and Mary Beth in your thoughts and prayers.

They had to move the remainder of the finals to Mt. Brook YMCA. It was pouring at Highland Park but 2.3 miles down the road, it hadn't even rained! Welcome to the south. Kim & Pam had one the first set 7-6 and moved during the second set and was up 3-2.

SECTIONALS - DAY 3

Shoals 3.0 Senior Ladies are in the finals of the Southern Sectionals! They play Tennessee at 9:30 Sunday. I'll post the results and final pictures Sunday evening. It's been a great tournament and they are going into the finals with a 4-0 record. More on Sunday. Good Luck Shoals!
