MEMBER/GUEST RESULTS

The Member/Guest Tournament at the Court House Racquet Club was small but fun, good tennis and good food was had by all. LaRon & Kathy did a great job! The finals were:

Mixed Doubles:

3.5 - Joey Meares & Jessica Workman defeated John Chase & Katie Manset

4.0 - Brice Bishop & Callie Thomas defeated McKenzie Bishop & Bart Rickard

Ladies Doubles:

3.5 - Marilyn Manset & Katie Manset defeated Lynn Bevis & Donna Garner

Men's Doubles:

Joey Meares & Ryan Byrd defeated Jason Manset & John Chase

MOBILE - 3.5 - 4.0 - DAY 3

The temperature today reached 98 with another heat index of 110. Someone brought a thermometer and put it on the court. It reached 140 degrees. No lie! Eleven IV's were given today with three taken to the hospital. Even with all this, we saw some really good tennis. Our 3.5 ladies team, the Power Shots, captained by Jama Rogers lost this morning 3-2 and finished second in their bracket. Boy did they play some good tennis...We're planning on seeing them down here again next year.

Our 3.5 men, John Bedford's team, won their bracket today and will play "Bubba's" team in the morning in the semi-finals. For those of you who do not know, "Bubba's" team is of the "Rick & Bubba" fame. It's obviously a Birmingham team. GO SHOALS!!!!

Our 4.0 men, Ashley Isbell's team are 3-1 with another match in the morning. It's still possible that they can make the finals. We'll have to wait & see. Good luck guys!

I don't want to forget about our 4.0 ladies. Shannon Clemmons captained their way down here and I wasn't able to watch any of their matches. I never saw any of the players except for a second here and there. And of course, I obviously didn't have my camera because I have no pictures of them. My apologies........

I'm looking foward to coming home! Hopefully, I'll bring a cool front with me.

MAN, IT'S HOT!

Well, the 3.5 and 4.0 men and women got started today. There was some really good tennis. Check out tennislink to keep up with the individual scores. By the time I get back to the hotel, I can hardly remember anything. I'll tell you what I do remember....Marilyn Manset & Sandra Carpenter played from 8:00 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. They won in a 11-9 tiebreak! Congratulations....I remember that the Powershots were playing and they split 2-2 and it was up to Devon Hester to win the team match and SHE DID! I also found out that Devon wants to know when the match is resting on her shoulders so she'll "dig deep". Jaime Weaver was playing and lost her shoe and kept playing and won the point! It was a sight to be seen. She also fell and broke her finger! The 4.0 women led by Shannon Clemmons won their match this morning but left before I could get any pictures or details. John Bedford's 3.5 team won this afternoon too. Can't remember if it was 5-0 or 4-1 but it was a solid win. Our aid station stayed busy all day. Several IV's were given and one lady from Birmingham was taken to the hospital. The weather was extremely hot with the high of 99 and heat index well over 110.
